Originally developed by Vandoren in 1983 for jazz and popular music, the Java reeds are designed to meet the needs of modern saxophonists. These reeds feature an extremely thin tip (the area of maximum vibration), supported by a solid heart (thicker cane near the heel), which provides excellent projection and tonal depth.

Java reeds are more flexible than both the Traditional and V16 models, delivering a bright sound and immediate response, making them highly adaptable to a wide variety of musical styles.
