Forestone Standard Sax Soprano Reed 3
Soprano saxophone reed
The material from which Forestone makes these reeds is a mixture of polypropylene resin and wood cellus fiber. More than 50 percent of the wood fiber used is bamboo. The material is brown in color, tasteless, odorless and nontoxic. The exceptional sound, elasticity and flexibility of Forestone reeds is mainly due to this special material.
Forestone reeds are perfectly balanced side to side and front to back. The more or less standard profile tapers to 0.1 millimeter thickness through the tip.
Forestone reeds tend to maintain their strength/strength over time. They vibrate well and hold the center of the sound in a manner similar to that of a good quality traditionally constructed reed. The basic timbre is robust, clear and strong, with just enough "buzz" ensuring projection and carrying power without neglecting. intonation that remains stable
The difference in feel between Forestone reeds and traditional reeds is minimal. That said, it is the wise musician who takes time to become familiar with Forestone in the same way he or she would take time to become familiar with a new mouthpiece, ligature, or instrument.
Air resistance can be adjusted with Forestone reeds by slightly raising or lowering the reed on the mouthpiece table (slightly lower placement = slightly lower resistance, slightly higher placement = slightly more resistance). Although other types of adjustment are usually not necessary, the material is hard enough that one can still do it with blades, files, sandpaper, or any other tool or implement desired.
The useful life of a Forestone reed will vary from musician to musician. Forestone reeds by far will survive water-logging and saliva, They will not warp from changes in humidity or at high altitudes. After a number of hours, however, the reeds will begin to be less lively and responsive. Loss of vitality, whether subtle or more pronounced, would be a sign that it is time to retire the reed in favor of a newer one.
