Handcrafted tabla set is a combination of two traditional Indian drums used in Indian classical music and other forms of music. These drums, known as “tabla” (the main drum) and “baya” (the secondary drum), are played by hand to create a variety of complex tones and rhythms. The tabla set is one of the most iconic instruments in Indian music.

Features of a Tabla Set

• Materials: The drums are made from high-quality wood (such as oak or mahogany) to ensure durability and good tone. The membranes are generally made of animal skin (cow or goat) treated to achieve the desired sound.
• Tuning: Both drums (tabla and baya) are tunable thanks to strings that adjust the tension of the skins, affecting the tone and sound quality.
• Sound and Use: The tabla is mainly used to perform complex rhythmic sequences called “tala” in Indian classical music, while the baya provides the deep sound and rhythmic base.

Main components of a Tabla Set:

• Tabla (Daya): The tabla is the smallest drum and produces high, melodious sounds. It is played with the right hand and placed on the left during performance. The tabla has a skin membrane that can be adjusted in tension to change the tone.
